It is shocking to masses of women that any woman would want to see Donald Trump naked and gross to imagine having sex with him. There are many examples of Trump being delusional; however, thinking he is hot to women is right up there with thinking he won the presidential election. Right after the Access Hollywood tape came out, many members of Congress spoke out against candidate Trump’s immorality and criminality and declared they could no longer support him. Senators Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, and Marco Rubio publicly denounced Trump and suggested he pull out of the race. But they caved, and by doing so have forever trashed their integrity. There is a connection between the violent, disrespectful message of the Access Hollywood tapes and the cruelty-inspired governing that characterized Trump’s presidency.
However, Trump perfected his cult persona, by lying, demonizating and scare tactics and won the nomination and the presidency. Once elected, Trump began his mob-style takeover of the Republican party. He frantically hired people who pledged their loyalty to him and fired those who wouldn’t pledge it. He showed his authentic, corrupt self from the beginning of his presidency by:
1) embracing dictators and alienating allies, 2) profitting financially from being president, 3) hiding his tax returns, 4)defying congressional subpoenas, 5) mirroring Putin style propaganda spreading, 6) attempting to bribe a foreign government, 7)inciting the Jan 6th insurrection, 8) Making nine requests to the DOJ to overturn the 2020 election results 9) separating families of immigrants and asylum seekers at the southern border, 10) co-conspired in the campaign finance crime related to Stormy Daniels, and 11) spreading the lie about the 2020 election being rigged and stolen from him ( this is not a complete list of his corruption).
These actions make it obvious that Trump has flouted adherence to the Constitution and is actively seeking laws that support an autocratic government which favors a one-party system, a lifetime dictator, elections that can be overturned by the party in power, and rejection of the U.S. Constitution when it comes to oversight of the president. Republican voters seem to like the idea of a dictator if that leader is a Republican. However, Trump falsely claims to be a Republican, yet he doesn’t hold the same views of the traditional GOP. He governs against abortion and prioritizes the 2nd Amendment only as a strategy to solidify his base of evangelicals, white supremacists, and anarchists. He isn’t fiscally conservative as shown by his out of control spending as president which added 7.8 trillion dollars to the U.S. debt. He exhibits no passion about specific issues except as they solidify his popularity with his base and increases the potential to accumulate wealth and retain power.
The anniversary of the Access Hollywood tape should serve as a reminder of the sleazy, misogynistic, and cruel character of Donald Trump. In the past, such behaviors were unacceptable for a president to embody. However, the current power-obsessed Republican party is enabling this disordered former president allowing him to carry out his plan to deconstruct democracy and abandon morality. Out of fear of his vengeance if they oppose him, Republicans are now enemies of the democracy they took an oath to protect. For the Trump-controlled Republican party, retaining power supersedes defending the rule of law and living by the values on which America was founded. America is approaching a civil war, the collapse of the Constitution, and an autocratic takeover of our country. Trump’s anti-democracy behaviors have exposed the danger of the Department of Justice’s precedent that a U.S. president cannot be indicted for crimes during his term in office. Currently, a U.S. president is above the law. Attorney General Merrick Garland must act to end that dangerous precedent which Trump has proven weakens the stability of our democracy.
The election of a psychologically character-flawed person has now happened in America. The DOJ and the Judiciary Branch of government will either fight to uphold the Constitution and preserve our democracy or allow for the transformation of the United States into a Russian-like autocracy. Trump supporters should study the reality of dictatorships and how they are characterized by the loss of, not the protection of, personal freedoms. The self-interests of the leader supersedes the will and needs of the people. Those who support Trump and politicians who embrace his anti-constitutional ideology are complicit in the potential downfall of democracy. As the mid-term elections approach, Republicans who want to continue to live in a democracy can publicly proclaim party loyalty to everything Trump but privately must vote against it.
