The RNC Convention Was An Uninspiring Display Of Lies And Scare Tactics, Especially About The Myth Of “Migrant Crime”. Additionally, 80s Throwbacks Hulk Hogan And Kid Rock Displayed Cliched Machoism That Was An Embarrassment.
Trump’s passion for attention, drama, lying, and aggression is so unbecoming of a president it is no wonder every best/worst list that ranks presidents either puts him at the bottom or in the bottom five. The Convention relied on parading out his family and supplicants because the former members of his administration, including Vice President Pence, have rejected him. Others not in attendance were either in jail or too humiliated to attend because of their own criminal problems related to Trump. The themes of the night were grievances, mean- girl vitriole, conspiracy theories, and lies. It was a flop except for the attendees who see politics as a hate-fest rally, an excuse to buy merchandise, or a place to express racism against immigrants. The rhetoric espoused by Trump political allies about migrant crime was an attempt to scare its base into staying with Trump.

The day before, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said, “Every day, Americans are dying” in crimes committed by migrants. Donald Trump has made similar remarks on the campaign trail.” (The New York Times, German Lopez July 18, 2024). The NYT also reports for years studies show that there is no correlation be immigration increase and crime statistics. In fact they report,
“There is no migrant crime issue at the border. Trump and other Republicans have suggested that immigrants are especially likely to be criminals. But the data shows the opposite: Immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than other groups of Americans.”

The toxic, desperate attempt by Trump and these cliche old men to be seen as masculine is embarrassing to watch. Do men really buy this narrative about these guys being masculine? Do women really find them attractive and inspiring? Even the attendees appeared unimpressed or confused by their performances.
The greatest embarrassments were two-fold; Trump babbling repetitive grievances, lies and nonsense and the 39 year old, under qualified JD Vance promising Americans a Project 2025 conversion of our democracy.
