In “Prequel”, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow is dedicating herself to educating Americans about the history of fascist movements in Europe and America in the 1930s and 1940s. Maddow describes how America began mirroring the white nationalist movements in Europe at that time in history. She traces the “America-First”, white nationalist, Hitler-sympathizing movements in the 30s and with indisputable, historical facts . Maddow then describes, with facts, the alignment of the current Republucan party with white nationalist, Nazi ideology and the threat it poses to the survival of our democracy.Michael Cohen was a loyal attorney and “fixer” for Donald Trump for 10 years. However, an investigation discovered a $130,000 hush money payment he made to porn star Stormy Daniel’s during the 2020 presidential campaign. Cohen would have to tell the truth: He was instructed to make the payment by Donald Trump. “Revenge” is Cohen’s account of how Trump co-ordinated the hush-money payment to Daniels and the re-payment to him. Trump publicly denied being involved in the payment. Ultimately, the investigation revealed co- conspirator #1 in the payment which violated campaign finance laws was Donald Trump. However, Trump successfully weaponized the justice system against Michael Cohen to punish him for being honest with the DOJ investigators. Cohen was found guilty crimes related to the payment and spent 3 years in prison. Now, as an ex-president, the Justice Dept. has indicted Trump for the crime that he asked Michael Cohen to commit to hide his affair with Stormy Daniels. “Revenge” reveals the dishonesty, low character, and criminality that defines Donald Trump.In “Attack From Within” Former federal prosecutor and Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Barbara McQuade asks “will America become a country where losing candidates refuse to concede elections? That chilling question reflects the rise in how disinformation and misinformation are becoming normalized by the extremist, anti- democracy movement of the Republican party. In her book, McQuade says, “disinformation is the deliberate use of lies to manipulate people. It’s unwitting accomplice, misinformation” is spread by unknowing dupes who repeat the lies they believe to be true.” She says disinformers aim to inflame our passions and demonize their opponents.” McQuade warns this ” either-or- fallacy” creates a good vs evil dynamic which inflames discord, and incites violence and fear. She also warns about the role that social media plays in the threat to democracy by spreading disinformation and misinformation. January 6th, McQuade says, could have been a dress rehearsal for the next couple attempt that could succeed.
In “Blowback” former Trump Administration chief of staff at the Dept. of Homeland Security Miles Taylor reveals the dangerous impulses and incompetency he observed Donald Trump demonstrate while president. He witnessed Trump trying to act in opposition to our Constitution and national security. He warns that if American voters don’t listen to the facts about Trump and the MAGA movement, a second Trump Presidency could happen and the result will be ” irreparable damage to our democracy”. In his prior book, In “Anonymous”, Taylor warned America that Trump was engaging in incompetent, dangerous behaviors that threatened the country’s national security. He wrote that book anonymously out of fear for his physical safety as he knew Trump would incite violence towards whoever wrote it. He was right. Taylor lost his home, his marriage, and sense of safety in the aftermath of admitting he wrote ” Anonymous”.
