Federal Judge Amit Mehta ruled last week that civil cases being brought against Donald Trump regarding his January 6th insurrection ” stop the steal” speech can move forward. Mehta said, ” The President’s January 6 Rally Speech can reasonably be viewed as a call for collective action.” The judge’s 112-page opinion explained why Trump’s legal argument that he was acting within his presidential duties that day wasn’t valid. Mehta ruled that “Mr. Trump’s actions that day had little to do with normal presidential duties like executing laws or commanding the armed forces and instead concerned something more personal: what the judge called Mr. Trump’s “efforts to remain in office for a second term”(CNN News). Judges from both parties consistently rule against Trump’s anti-rule of law behaviors and reject his baseless accusations of others. His abuse of the judiciary to delay being held responsible for his crimes is transparent and should be illegal.
In addition to being found to have illegally destroyed presidential records, it was also discovered that he removed 15 boxes of records containing some classified documents to Mar-a- Lago. This week a court also ruled that Trump, Ivanka, and Don Jr. must sit for a deposition on the New York case regarding suspicion of fraud by the Trump Organization. A grand jury is forming in Georgia to investigate his efforts to get state officials to falsify the results of the 2020 election in his favor saying, ” All I need is 11,780 votes which is one more than we need to win.” Additionally, his involvement in the fraudulent elector scam is under investigation by the Jan. 6th committee. These criminal accusations are serious, and evidence of his guilt is documented on tape and video. As long as Attorney General Merrick Garland isn’t derelict in his duty, Trump is doomed.
