Ex-Presidents In A Ceremony To Honor Americans Killed By War Or Terrorism
Three former presidents plan to honor the 20th anniversary of 9/11 in ways fitting of the office of a U. S. President, while the attention-whore Trump yucks it up at a boxing match. President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama will attend a 9/11 ceremony at Ground Zero. President George W. Bush delivered a speech today in Shanksville, Penn., at the Flight 93 National Memorial. President Jimmy Carter is 96, and will show his respect in reflection and prayer at his home.
The Associated Press reports on Sept. 11, 2021, “President Joe Biden is making an appeal for the nation to reclaim the spirit of cooperation that sprung up in the days following the 9/11 terror attacks as he commemorates those who died 20 years ago”. Typical of Biden, he takes any opportunity to appeal to Americans of both parties, all races, men and women, all religions, and all ages to join together during times of adversity as one nation. Watching footage of the 9/11 terror attack is a reminder of how 20 years ago, despite the political divide during the Bush years, Americans felt united in their grief, patriotism, and resolve to help each other through the national trauma. Biden’s message to the country included the belief that “the central lesson of September 11 is that “Unity is our greatest strength.”
Today, the political divide in America is fueled by extreme right-wing and white supremacy Ideology. Hatred and violence towards our differences have risen to dangerous levels. The cruel, racist, autocratic policies of Trump and his corrupt Administration have transformed the united America of the post 9/11 era into a country filled with bigotry and lack of trust and respect between white, Christian America and minorities, non- Christians and immigrants and refugees.
President Bush tried to reduce blame and hatred towards Muslim Americans over the attack saying, “These acts of violence against innocents violate the fundamental tenets of the Islamic faith. And my fellow Americans need to understand that. The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That’s not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace. These terrorists don’t represent peace. They represent evil and war. President Bush tried to divide. His instinct to prevent hatred and xenophobia towards American Muslims emananated from his authentic religious faith, his knowledge of Islam, and love for our democracy. Democrats and Independents who were no fans of Bush’s policies united behind him in respect for his compassion and integrity.
One of President Biden’s successes since decisively beating Trump in the 2020 election has been his ability to ignore the circus-barking of complete lies and hatred by the ex-president. Biden, like many Democratic presidents before him, has inherited a wide range of wreckage resulting from the incompetent governing of a GOP president. Trump took the term wreckage to a new low by violating the Constitution, emboldening white supremacyt terror groups, and by lowering the bar on morality and tolerance.
Let’s commit to opposing the re-election of all members of Congress who support a one- party system, promote racist ideology, support voter suppression, and the anti- American policies against people of color.
BUILD BACK BETTER, is President Biden’s mission. He is leading the recovery from the insurrectionist movement of the right-wing Republicans party, domestic terrorism, the rise of white supremacy, the COVID pandemic, and the degrading of American values. Thankfully, America did not re-elect the man who led and still leads the assault on our democracy and American decency. Hopefully, Biden’s call for a re-united America on this day of remembrance will drown the hateful divisiveness of the extremism of the power-hungry, right-wing faction of the current Republican party and its vulnerable the brainwashed electorate.
Former President Bush reminded us that “The nation he knows” is one of a people who reach out to help, love, and support each other during tragic times for the collective good, despite their differences. Hopefully, Republicans who have patriotically rejected the hateful, autocratic takeover of their party by the substandard personhood of Donald Trump were listening to President Bush’s speech and will continue to fight to recover decency and competence in their party.
On this solemn day of national mourning, here are the profound words of the former disgraced president, “I love great fighters and great fights. I look forward to seeing both this Saturday night and sharing my thoughts ringside. You won’t want to miss this special event,” Trump said in a press release. He also chose this day of mourning and cry for unity to disparage the current American president and predict for all terrorists around the world to hear that he predicts another 9/11 because of President Biden. He’s a dangerous narcissist, anti-American, transparently immoral, and an unintelligent autocrat. The sooner he is wearing a suit that matches his hair, the better for our democracy.
