Joe Biden is ready to thoroughly and intelligently discuss the issues in a way that Trump is incapable of doing. However, preparing to face an immature, dishonest, unqualified bully in a debate is difficult. In prior debates, Trump has used hyperbolic language to elicit emotional reactions from his audience. He interrupts his opponents when it is their turn to speak and makes inappropriate facial expressions to hijack the attention. He lost all three debates to Hillary Clinton because she clearly understood the complexities of the issues and Trump embarrassingly didn’t. He stalked her physically while she spoke to intimidate her and to grab the attention. He is becoming more emotionally unstable and dishonest in his recent appearances, causing unrest to millions of Americans who are suffering medically and financially during the pandemic.
Just for fun and to discredit Trump’s claim of physical superiority to Biden, it would be great to watch each candidate navigate a steep ramp leading up to the stage. Biden has suggested we watch tape of his appearances walking up and down ramps and compare them to Trump’s awkward, labored descent down the ramp at a recent military event. Biden must also remind himself of Trump’s personality disorders and emotional insecurities as he prepares for the debates. Getting Trump to answer questions with clarity is probably not going to happen, so some of his preparation should include responses to false or idiotic banter Trump will use to try to score “AHA” moments. Being incapable of competing with Biden’s expertise and authentic compassion, Trump will default to using ridicule, lies, and histrionics to energize his base and cover-up his insecurities.
Biden must be prepared with responses to the hoaxes and false claims Trump will undoubtedly introduce into the dialogue. The president is a master of not answering questions because any substantive question about government or policy is out of his mental bandwidth. He will have a script prepared with the same rhetoric he has been boring and scaring us with for 3 1/2 years. Biden should have responses ready for fake accusations such as;
Trump: “You are a far-left extremist in support of Antifa.” Biden: That’s a lie, provide proof. By the way, you have gone public with the support of Qanon, a radical far-right group who believes in abnormal ideas.
Trump: You want to defund the police.” Biden: “I am on record, in public, saying that I am not in support of defunding the police. Let’s compare our plans for reforming law enforcement for the benefit of all Americans.”
Trump: “Democrats believe in open borders.” Biden: Not true. Please provide any proof of that claim. I favor immigration reform that givens immigrants, Dreamers, and asylum seekers a pathway to citizenship because that is a foundational principle of American democracy. I support the enforcement of immigration laws.
Trump: “You do not have the stamina or mental acuity to be president.” Biden: “Where is the medical proof to your claim? Your opinion aims to distract from your own medical conditions that you choose not to be transparent about. Let’s have a ramp walking contest and a bike race. Many people who have worked with you have gone on record saying they see a decline in your cognitive abilities.. Americans are on to your game of false claims without evidence.”
Trump: “If you are elected, the economy will crash. No president has ever had a stronger economy.” Biden: The economy was stronger in the ’20s, and during the Obama and Clinton Presidencies. Many of your econ9mic numbers fell short of theirs. The fact-checker is going to embarrass you on this false claim. Number 2 point: Barack Obama inherited an economy in recession. I was put in charge of bringing back the auto industry, jobs to Michigan and other states hit hard by the failed Bush economy. You have trashed the economy with your incompetent response to the pandemic. You inherited a great economy from Obama/Biden, but you have never led an economy out of a recession. I have a proven record of helping a president do that. Many Americans are becoming aware that the stock market is not a reflection of the economy as a whole, and you are conflating the two issues for political gain.
Trump: “You are soft on crime, and there will be violence in the suburbs like we have never seen.” Biden: My record speaks for itself. I have always supported law enforcement. Have you read my proposals for law enforcement reform on my website? It is an extensive, comprehensive plan addressing racial justice reform issues and training for police officers to better deal mentally and physically disabled people. It also includes legislative changes needed to reduce the incarceration numbers in our prisons. One component of my plan is to provide rehabilitation programs instead of prison for people with drug and alcohol problems. If you do read, which I have heard you don’t, check out my website on the issue of law enforcement, and then we can have a real debate of ideas instead of wasting time with false accusations.
Trump: “Your involvement in the firing of the Ukraine prosecutor was a corrupt act to protect your corrupt son.” Biden: That is also a lie. I was assigned by Obama to help reduce corruption in that country, and there was a unanimous agreement to remove this prosecutor known to be corrupt. If you want to discuss corruption, let’s do it. Despite Attorney General Barr lying about the Mueller Report findings, you were found to have committed ten acts of obstruction of justice in the Russia Investigation. In your impeachment trial, despite the fact, my Republican colleagues voted against your removal from office, the House of Representatives found you guilty of abuse of power in your attempt to extort a foreign government for your own political gain. Many of your choices for important administration officials have been indicted, jailed, or are still under investigation for crimes against the government. You continuously and unethically insert yourself into Department of Justice business. With the help of AG Barr (who is under legal scrutiny almost every day because of potentially illegal activity), you are obstructing the work of our intelligence agencies, the USPS, and the judiciary.
If you want to go after our children, let’s include your daughter Ivanka promoting her businesses while serving in the White House and obtaining over a dozen patents from China since you have been in office. Don Jr. met with Russian officials to try to get dirt on your opponent, Hillary Clinton, in the 2016 election. He lied about what the meeting was about. An email with him saying ” I love it” revealed he knew the meeting was about Clinton.
BIDEN: “I SENSE YOU ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE FALSE MORAL CLAIMS ABOUT ME BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW YOU WOULD LOSE ON THAT ISSUE.”
“IT IS ALSO A GOOD IDEA TO STAY AWAY FROM LAME NAME-CALLING. SLEEPY JOE IS DUMB. JUST BECAUSE I DON’T SPEAK LIKE A CIRCUS-BARKER AND WAVE MY HANDS AROUND DOESN’T MEAN I’M TIRED. I AM NOT TRYING TO MANIPULATE OR SCARE PEOPLE. I DON’T PERFORM FOR THE CAMERA, I AM THE REAL DEAL WHO EVERYONE CAN TRUST.”
BIDEN: “I support a fact-checker to be on stage during the debate. Anyone can get a statistic wrong or leave out an important fact, however what is most important in a debate is that the American people are told the truth. There should be no lying or conspiracy theories allowed. Any claims by either one of us should be backed up with facts. There is no place for opinion journalism and gaslighting in a United States Presidential debate.”
