The pathological hypocrisy of Donald Trump has seeped into the character of the religious right- wing of the party and evangelical Christians. While Democrats quickly turn their backs on colleagues who engage in or are accused of inappropriate sexual or illegal behaviors, Republican right-wingers stay silent or deny undeniable evidence. Hypocrisy and a cult-mentality have replaced the authenticity and decency of millions of so-called Bible-believing Christians.
Trump’s sleaze resume is impressive if you’re into that sort of thing. He is known to have cheated on all three of his wives. Melania was publicly humiliated by his sexual rendezvous with porn star Stormy Daniels soon after the birth of their son Barron. Playboy Bunny Kare MacDougal has publicly described a 10-month affair with Trump in 2006, which she says was serious and mutual. This affair occurred during his tryst with Daniel’s and other women. Adultery is one of the Ten Commandments and is cited pervasively throughout the text as a severe sin. Should we assume Trump’s transgressions are now acceptable patterns amongst the evangelical community and Congressional Tea Party Members?
There is plenty more sleaze worth mentioning. In 2005, Trump appeared on the Howard Stern radio show, where he admitted walking through dressing rooms at the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants while contestants were undressing. He bragged to Stern, “When you own the pageant, you can get away with that kind of stuff.” Comments like that resulted in former contestants, some under 18, exposing these inappropriate behaviors by Trump.
Over 22 women have filed claims of sexual assault or sexual aggressiveness against Trump. His pattern of sexually assaultive behavior against women is consistent with the infamous Access Hollywood tape in 2015, where he told host Billy Bush about: ” grabbing women by the pussy, because as a celebrity, they let you do it.” His accusers describe him aggressively kissing and groping their private parts despite their attempts to stop his advances. These allegations span over 30 years by women who had no contact with each other to conspire against him, as he has claimed. Before his election, women who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by him believed he was unworthy and unfit to become President, which motivated them to speak up. Trump’s behaviors with women aligned with the message of the “Me Too” movement and Trump has had ‘ME TOO” victims of his speaking up since his election.
Despite the pervasive nature of the sexual allegations against him, Trump’s Christian supporters stand by him, believe his denials and cheer his attacks against his accusers. What if the accused was Obama or any Democratic president? Republicans, especially the religious- right should remember the Bible sees the coveting of sinners as a sin.
Trump has denied associations with sex traffickers Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell despite proof that he socialized with them at Mara- a-Lago and at other social events. Investigations continue to pursue evidence of prominent men, including Trump, who may have been involved in illegal sexual activity with underage girls. An additional ” icky” factor about Trump involves his daughter, Ivanka. He has publicly commented, “she has a great body, and if she weren’t my daughter, I would probably be dating her.” Additionally, when asked during an interview with Ivanka, “what do you have in common with her, he said, ” sex.” Are these the kind of comments religious-right fathers now routinely make to their daughters?
Trump also has a pattern of defending men who have been accused of physical abuse against women, involved with prostitution, adultery, and in the case of Roy Moore, pedophilia. When White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter resigned after two ex-wives came forward with claims and evidence of physical violence, Trump only had praise for him, “He is a hard worker, and has a great career ahead of him. He is going through a tough time.” No statement was made condemning domestic violence, and no sympathy was shown for his victims. He also defended serial sexual predator Fox CEO Roger Ailes as well as Fox host Bill O’ Reilly, and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski despite multiple allegations and lawsuits regarding abuse of women. Trump vehemently defends men accused of crimes against women by saying, “He says he’s innocent, you have to remember that.” That has been his playbook for years.
In addition to the sexual, criminal sleaze surrounding Trump, there exists pervasive political sleaze more accurately referred to as corruption and illegality. He has placed unqualified cronies in positions of power by ignoring, ” order of succession regulations,” ignores legal subpoenas issued by Congress, and has attempted to suppress the constitutional rights of Americans to full access to vote, to peacefully protest, and to express their First Amendment Right to free speech. History will show that Donald J. Trump broke more laws while in office, hired more criminal political figures to protect him, and in doing so, became the worst, most world-wide President in U.S. history. HIstory may also show he became the first U.S. President to be escorted into custody upon leaving the White House.
